Superloop social impact: how one donation is helping families at Hornsby Hospital

For families with a baby in special care, being close matters.

That’s why Superloop’s donation of specialist monitoring equipment to Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital, made through the Humpty Dumpty Foundation last year, is having a meaningful impact beyond the walls of the Special Care Nursery.

During a recent visit to the nursery, we met the incredible team using the equipment and saw how the Intellivue MX550 Monitors with MMX Modules are helping deliver specialised care to premature and vulnerable babies. Designed specifically for newborns and children, the monitors help clinicians track vital signs such as heart rate, breathing, oxygen levels and blood pressure with the accuracy needed for very young patients.

But the biggest impact may be what the equipment makes possible for families. With this added capability, Hornsby can accept some babies transferred from larger hospitals such as Royal North Shore, allowing them to continue receiving care closer to home. For parents, that can mean less travel, less disruption and more time by their baby’s side during an already stressful experience.

The equipment also plays an important role across the broader hospital network, helping larger neonatal units free up capacity for babies who need the most intensive care while enabling Hornsby to support ongoing treatment locally.

It’s a tangible example of how community support can make a real difference - not just in the quality of care hospitals can provide, but in the experience of families going through some of their hardest days.

We’re proud to be returning to Balmoral Burn as a sponsor and are planning on continuing to support Hornsby Hospital by purchasing Cardiac Workstation ECG, which is a much-needed piece of equipment that provides safe, non-invasive, real-time cardiac assessment for infants. Currently, Hornsby SCN lacks a dedicated ECG, requiring shared equipment that delays care and increases infection risk. Immediate ECG access enables early detection of life-threatening arrythmias, supports diagnosis of congenital and drug-induced cardiac conditions, guides timely clinical decisions and improves outcomes for newborns.
